Designed by Trisha Biggar, this costume from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, often called the "Return to Naboo" costume or the "Travel Gown." has been used twice - first on Natalie Portman in The Phantom Menace in 1999, and then ten years later, when Lucasfilms allowed many of their original props from their productions to be borrowed for use on the 2009 Halloween episode of The Today Show. The entire cast dressed up as characters from the Star Wars Universe, and Natalie Morales not only went as Queen Padme Amidala, but was also fortunate enough to be able to wear the actual costume that was originally used in the film.
This costume has been on exhibit several times over the past few years, most notibly in London and France along side many other original costumes. Fantastic and highly detailed exhibit photos of this gown can be found at Padawan's Guide. You can also learn more about the history and design of this costume and many others from the Star Wars Prequel in Trisha Biggar's book, Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars. |
