Biography: Elizabeth I: Virgin Queen

This costume, though first seen in Mary, Queen of Scots, likely did not originate there. Most secondary costumes from that film came from either Anne of the Thousand Days or A Man For All Seasons. It is seen in Mary, Queen of Scots, with a jacket over it. The series Biography used the gown for their episode on Queen Elizabeth I, at which point they added a neck ruff. The gown was used a third time the very next year for another biography on Elizabeth I, this time for David Starkey's The Acclaimed Saga of England's Virgin Queen. |
