This gown was made for the 2005 production of Pride and Prejudice, and when it was recycled a few years later for Sense and Sensibility, where, if it is the same gown, it seems to have actually been dyed pink (or tragically been in a load of whites with a red sock)!
But this gown probably isn't the same due to some discrepencies in the differences, such as a different belt, though the similarities are remarkable. However, considering so many costumes from Pride and Prejudice were used for Sense and Sensibility I think that still leaves a chance that this gown did at least originate from the production of Pride and Prejudice - likely on an extra. The similarities are too hard to overlook, so chances are that the costume designer made quite a few very similar gowns to save on time. Many productions utilize this technique - such as the ladies in waiting in the film Elizabeth.
If anyone has high resolution shots of these two gowns, or more observations about what is the same and what is different, as well as images if you happen to manage to spot the pink striped dress in Pride and Prejudice (I know it's there somewhere!) please do send them in!
