Costume seen on Nancy Caroll as Olivia Dangerfield
The Eyes of the World
Costume seen on Una Merkel as Sybil LaGrange

This floral dress with distinctive scalloped edging on the sleeves was first worn by Nancy Carrol in the 1930 film Honey, where it was worn by Nancy Carroll as Olivia Dangerfield. Costumes for the film were designed by Travis Banton. The costume appeared again the same year on Una Merkel as Sybil LaGrange in The Eyes of the World - a film that is now considered to be lost. An illustration of Merkel appears on the cover of a reprint of the novel, and she appears to be wearing the same dress.

While the dress is certainly the same design, it’s unknown if it is the exact same costume. Because the films come from different studios, its possible that the same dress was purchased off the rack for both films.
