The 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons was based off of Christopher Hampton’s play Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which itself was based off the 18th novel of the same name by author Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The film adaptation was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Actress, Best Picture and Best Costumes. James Acheson’s designs for the film ultimately did win him the Oscar, and his beautiful creations have gone on to be used in numerous productions over the years.
This particular beautifully detailed robe à la française was worn by Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame de Tourvel in Dangerous Liaisons. It went on to be used again in the 1992 production of Last of the Mohicans, where it was worn on Jodhi May as the character Alice Munro. |
